A Story of Contrast and Play

About this series

Hi, I’m Angelina—a family and motherhood photographer based in Sydney.

This month, I’m sharing a 31-day colour challenge: a gentle exploration of how colour shapes our memories, our emotions, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. Each day, I’ll be reflecting on a different hue—through photos, stories, and the little wonders I find when I slow down and look closely.

Thanks for being here.

The Colour Blue – A Story of Contrast & Play

Some days, the photo happens before I even know I’m taking it.

Today, it was a blue teacup filled with yellow daisies—offered to me with wide eyes and a proud little smile.

My daughter picked them herself.

“Here, Mummy,” she said, “for your tea.”

A moment so small, and yet it stopped me in my tracks.

Because this is her world right now—tea parties with the wind, cubbyhouse dreams, and gifts from the garden pressed into tiny hands.

In the photograph: a blue teacup, its rim lined with fresh-picked yellow daisies.

The kind of still life only a child could compose—unpolished, wholehearted, and full of story.

Colour Insight

Blue and yellow sit opposite each other on the colour wheel—complementary colours.

When placed together, they bring out the best in each other. One cool, one warm. One like the ocean, one like the sun. Together, they create joy.

Contrast, without conflict.

There’s something poetic about that—especially in motherhood.

How opposites can meet.

How mess and beauty live side by side.

And how love can look like a daisy, placed carefully in your tea.

The Everyday Wonder

Blue and yellow are everywhere—

A summer dress and a morning sky.

Crayon scribbles and beach umbrellas.

A child’s teacup, a handful of flowers, and the love behind the gesture.

They remind me to slow down.

To receive what’s offered with open hands.

To let play be the language of connection.

What colours are speaking to you today?

And when was the last time you let yourself be surprised by a simple act of love?
